Olympiacos recruit Spain's Riera

Olympiacos FC have completed the signing of Spain winger Albert Riera, who joins for a reported €6m from Liverpool FC.
"I'm very happy to be here and to play for such a big club,"
said the 28-year-old after agreeing a four-year contract. "The upcoming season is very important for Olympiacos and I will work hard to meet the expectations of the club and the fans. After two seasons at Liverpool without silverware, I am most anxious to win titles. It was an easy decision for me because I will be playing for a club who are after titles, which are missing from my career. Hopefully it won't be hard to adjust to my new surroundings."
Riera's settling-in period should be eased by Olympiacos's growing Spanish contingent, which also includes Raúl Bravo and Óscar González, while Argentinian midfielder Ariel Ibagaza was one of Riera's team-mates at RCD Mallorca. Riera, who has won 16 caps for Spain but missed out on the FIFA World Cup squad, also has a family connection in Greece as his younger brother, Sito, plays for Panionios GSS. "He has explained to me all about Greek football, how amazing the Olympiacos fans are, the atmosphere in the derbies," added Riera, whose new club play Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg in Greece on Thursday. "It's a challenge to be playing for such a crowd."
